You Dont Always Have To Progress.
Your fitness journey will never be a straight road to success.
The truth is there will be plenty of ups and downs, you will meet lots challenges along the way.
.
For those of us looking to progress physically, Christmas, as always will be a challenge! It usually involves lots of parties and plenty of temptation, but it is also a time we should enjoy.
.
How many times have you entered the Christmas period with the attitude of “sticking to your diet” only to “throw in the towel” after the first party?!
.
Christmas, for the majority of us isn’t a time to focus on making progress. If it usually ends in a 4 week binge then it’s time to change your strategy.
.
Right now if you’re losing weight you’re in a calorie deficit, the deficit will be difficult to maintain throughout the holidays. So why not bump up your calories to maintenance or even to a slight calorie surplus. Yeah you might gain a little bit of body fat but you will be in control and in a far better position physically and mentally post Christmas.
.
There is no need for excessive holiday weight gain. We preach sustainability and a non restrictive approach, there are times for making progress and there are times for maintaining.
.
5 things you can do to help maintain your current weight/body fat over the holiday season:
.
1. Train the day you have any parties and get active the following day.
.
2. Find out how many calories you are having now weekly and slightly increase throughout December (yes calories from alcohol count!)
.
3. If you have a night out/meal out coming up reduce your calorie intake the days before and/or after.
.
4. If you’re out on a Saturday night prepare your food for Sunday that day, you are then more likely not to order that takeaway!
.
5. Remain accountable! If you have a coach keep checking in. Take waist measurements, judge by the mirror and how clothes fit.
.
Right now lots of you are waiting until January to start your journey, but why not start now? There is still plenty of time to make progress and you will be guided throughout Christmas to maintain what you have achieved giving you a head start in January.
